The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) began as Women in Construction of Fort Worth, Texas founded in 1953 by 16 women. These women were actively employed in the construction industry and had been doing business with each other for years when they decided to meet face to face. They branched out beyond Texas and in 1955 became the National Association of Women in Construction an international organization today.  NAWIC’s core purpose is to enhance and promote the success of women in the construction industry.

Currently NAWIC has a membership of approximately 6,000 with close to 200 chapters in almost every U.S. State.  Since its charter in 1955, NAWIC has advanced the causes of all women in construction whose careers range from skilled tradeswomen to business ownership.

In August of 1977, the Greater Worcester, Ma Chapter 241 was formed with a few women members to enhance the success of women in the construction industry. The Boston, Ma Chapter 15 chartered the Greater Worcester Chapter.
